I continued creating this drawing. I am deliberately taking my time with it. I want to see how well I can do if I only give myself enough time. Up until now the clouds have been photorealistic but there is now a distinct Japanese print feel too them. I have also realized I do not want to make the sky too dark. This might mean making the mountain tops less easy to make out. The mountains in this drawing are something I am particularly proud of. Now that I look at it again I think the clouds are exceptionally good aswell. I think however the statue in the middle ground needs to be made a lot more distinct before the work can be described as finished
Other than that I continued drawing the tiny little stones on the shore. I’m sure I can do more to make the perspective better. The transition from the large stones in the foreground to the ones that are far away is not quite believable.
My main inspiration for this drawing is the final shot of John Boorman’s 1981 film Excalibur, which details the story King Arthur. The final shot shows a ship taking a wounded Arthur to the mystical Island of Avalon to be healed. The shot is mainly dominated by the sea in the lower half, and the sky in the top half.
