I am creating this sculpture using oil based clay. As soon as I have got all the details right I will mold it in plaster and make a resin sculpture. One thing I want to do is add bandages around the figure to give it a mummified look. This would also be helped by not adding any eyeballs. The empty sockets might leave an air of mystery, just dark spaces, something we don’t about this figure. I am creating the muscles by cutting grooves in the clay with small, then sculpting tools, and then smoothing them over with Vaseline. This does make it look more detailed but it still looks a bit smudged and amateurish. The hands are also looking too small. I might fatten the arms but it would also be useful to spread out the fingers more. This would make the figure scarier, giving it long fingers like spiders legs.
Creating a wall so that the two halves of the mold can be separated. There are two ways I could do this. One would be to make a groove in the sides of the sculpture and insert two pieces of cardboard into it. This sounds like the easiest but it would risk damaging the sculpture. would be to make very thin walls of oil based clay. This would mean I would not have to cut into the sculpture and risk damaging it. However it would take a lot more time.
