Water
Water is a very fun theme to use in artwork and it fits into an Aquarius art print perfectly. The possibilities for the bizarre are always there. It suggests unpredictability, like the artwork means a lot more than what you initially see; as if the subject of the artwork could behave in very unpredictable ways, or the image could change or start moving at any moment. When drawing the water I had the patterns usually seen in Japanese print making in mind; The total lack of any tone or shading, and the flowing sense that the objects in the image could move or turn in any direction. I have put water drops on the zig zag Aquarius symbol making this the first astrology art print I have done where the symbol plays a part in the image.
Jug
With the jug I wanted it to look like something that might have been used in the ancient world. This also fits in with the theme I am going for. It is important that it complements the ancient look of the writing; the angular shapes as if they are runes carved in stone. I was also going to do a shiny metal surface but I settled for this bound cord look because I think it looks more interesting. It looks like it has been made out of plant matter or strips of animal hide. The concept is that the maker didn’t have good materials and had to work with whatever was on hand.
Handle
As for the handle I wanted the shape to be uneven and inelegant. The maker was doing his best with a very limited selection of materials. I think it looks like it was made out of animal bone.
