I must reach the beyond
Lovecraft’s work is in the public domain so I can use as much of his work as I like. This painting was inspired by his short novella, although I wont be using that as the actual title. Like most of my work I want to create a sense of wonder and not despair.
With this one its all about a sharp contrast between the white of the snow and the many colours of the sky. I puts me in mind of a traveler looking towards his destination. I had considered putting an actual figure in the painting. But it was one of those situations where you might spoil in the painting whilst trying to make it better. Be satisfied with what you have got. Instead I want the viewer to imagine themselves in the mind of the traveler. What cold weather gear are they wearing. Do they feel just wonder when they look to towards the mountains, or do they fear terror aswell. Like I have said before, the mind of the viewer is your canvas.
