What should I call it?
My Harry Clarke tribute is finished. The only question now is coming up with a name.
May words come to mind when trying to describe it: Vision, nightmare, mystery – They could all have a place in summing up what this drawing is about. One name I like is ‘Swirling’. It could refer to so many things; the mind of the female figure in the center – her mind is swirling because she is trapped in a nightmare. Or it could refer to the motion of the bodies surrounding her because they are literally swirling. But maybe that name sounds too comical. The title needs to describe the setting. The female character is essentially trapped in a murder story. There are dead bodies, book shelves, curtains, grandfather clocks, all the things one would associate with a large manor house where a whodunnit would traditionally take place. The man hold a knife to her throat is an insane killer. But he is also a victim of what has been happening in this house. He himself has been driven mad and is visibly scared of the cadaverous apparitions. He could be trying to explain to her what is going, or apologizing for the fact that he is going to kill her. These are things that have to be considered when I come up with a name.
