The mold didn’t go very well so I decided to start again. The hands look so much more well proportioned on this one.
My intention is to sculpt the figurine, make a mold of the figurine in plaster, pour resin into the plaster and end up with a resin figurine at the end of it. But I did not see the problems that a solid mold would create. Plaster is solid. Either the figurine or the mold has to be flexible. Otherwise the figurine would get locked into the solid plaster mold, because it would be made resin which is also solid. If the mold was to be made of plaster then the figurine had to be silicone. This however caused another problem. The final silicone figurine was no sturdy enough. It flopped around wound not stand up straight. The figurine would not be sellable if I made it out of silicone. But this has not been a waste of time. I now have some idea of how much resin and silicone I need for the new mold and figurine.
